Safe4 completes development of Covid-19 Testing application

The challenge

The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged many businesses globally by making it extremely difficult for their workers to carry out their duties normally. Whilst many organisations have been able to function by assisting staff to work from home, there are many for whom physical attendance in a specific workplace is essential – construction, property maintenance, care for the elderly, retail, hospitality, to name but a few. In order to help such organisations deploy their workforce with minimum risk to health, we have completed the development of the Safe4 Covid-19 Testing application.

The solution

The application developed by Safe4 is based on 5 key elements:

  • The creation of a secure vault in which each individual’s identity and test result data can be held
  • Biometric identity verification using smartphone technology to ensure that the people involved are who they say they are
  • Facilitating an on-site Covid-19 antibody or PCR antigen test using a world-leading testing partner and PHE and MHRA approved laboratories and testing processes
  • Capturing the test result in the individual’s personal vault and providing a facility for this to be downloaded as a pass to a smartphone, so that it can be shown in a wallet bearing a QR code
  • The ability to present a landing page direct from the secure Safe4 site when the QR code is scanned, to allow the individual to be verified visually

The pass in the smartphone wallet presents the individual’s test result. When the QR code is scanned, the landing page allows both the identity of the individual and the test result to be verified visually.

Safe4Work

The service is aimed primarily at organisations with more than 20 employees, although it can accommodate businesses of any scale.

All of the data captured in this process is held in secure UK-based data centres accredited to ISO 27001, and is managed in accordance with well-established Safe4 standards, offering class-leading security and availability.

Safe4 announces the release of version 4.6

Further upgrades and enhancements to Safe4 are being introduced, as version 4.6 of the secure document delivery and storage service is released. As well as a series of significant improvements to both security and performance, the new release also provides a comprehensive refresh to the user interface for most parts of the system.

The key changes relate to responsiveness when used on mobile devices. Safe4 already provides a means of uploading photographs from smartphones and tablets directly into folders in the system, and this has now been extended to support the upload of multiple photographs or videos in a single action.

Among the changes are:

  • Completely rewritten upload and download routines, to make the system faster and more secure to use. The use of Flash in the multi-file upload process has been removed, resulting in a smoother and quicker user experience.
  • Re-organisation of the provider administration functions, with better control of system configuration options.
  • Re-scaled input screens for usernames, passwords and PINs, to make logging into the system from smartphones much easier.
  • Changes to the way in which the Public Folder facility works, to allow more flexible movement of files within a vault, and to support access from WebDAV connections through Windows and iOS.
  • A completely re-engineered development environment, to lay a flexible platform for some major functional enhancements planned for the first quarter of 2017.

This release of Safe4 underlines our commitment to offer the best possible service to our customers and their employees, clients, partners, suppliers and associates. The number of external threats to online security has never been greater, so the pressure to maintain a secure environment for confidential information is unrelenting. Safe4 launches new mobile interface

Safe4 version 4.4 has now been released, and provides an interface specifically designed for the mobile user. Making use of “responsive” design techniques, Safe4 will detect that a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet is being used, and will change the interface accordingly. This will assist users by altering the format of the display depending on whether the device is being held in portrait or landscape mode.

Since many users will still need to access some of the core Safe4 functionality from their mobile devices, such as renaming files or reviewing file histories, an option to use the standard desktop web user interface on the mobile device is retained.

Another useful facility is the ability to upload photographs from a tablet or smartphone directly into the vault of the user’s choosing. This has been verified on Apple devices, including iPhones and iPads, and on Android smartphones. Again, this will assist users who need to capture an image of a paper document, or some other evidential record in photographic form, by enabling instantaneous upload. Safe4 will notify authorised users of the upload in the normal way, and will update audit trails accordingly.

The future development programme for Safe4 continues to bring forward additional capabilities, to enhance the service by increasing the functionality and flexibility of the system, and by building on the best-in-class security and reliability attributes that Safe4 has established.
