Bulk upload and download of information
One of the significant benefits to be derived from using the WebDAV extensions to Safe4 is the ability to upload and download information in bulk.
Uploading information
The Safe4 web interface allows multiple files to be uploaded into a single folder. However, it is possible using the WebDAV interface to upload whole folder structures into Safe4 from Windows, including all of the sub-folders and file contents, in a single action.
When uploading folders into Safe4 from Windows using WebDAV, the whole structure will inherit the permissions of the Safe4 folder into which it is being uploaded. This will apply to any sub-folders underneath the top-level folders being uploaded. Any action undertaken using WebDAV folders will be dependent upon the user having the necessary permissions in Safe4.
Downloading information
Conversely, it is possible to download a large amount of information held in Safe4 by dragging it from WebDAV folders to a non-WebDAV drive or network location. This can also be done using the ZIP function in Windows by selecting the highest-level folder in the structure required for download, right-clicking, and choosing the option to “Send to …” followed by “Compressed (zipped) folder”. The ZIP file containing all of the contents of the top level folder will be placed into the WebDAV structure at the same point as the highest level folder that was chosen. The resulting ZIP file can then be dragged to a non-WebDAV folder in order to download it from Safe4.
Files may only be downloaded from Safe4 WebDAV folders if the user has access to those folders based on their permission settings.
