Safe4 Asset Register: Access and Usage from Mobile Devices

As described in the Safe4 Mobile Guide, access from a mobile device through a browser is straightforward and functions in a very similar way to the browser interface on a computer. The key difference is in the way that the screen displays the contents of the page. Because the Safe4 mobile interface is responsive, it will restructure the screen depending on the orientation of the device.

The screenshots on this page have been taken using an Apple iPhone. The display on an Android device will be identical.

It is possible to perform all of the functions described in the earlier sections of the Asset Register on a mobile device. This includes the creation and definition of asset types and attributes, as well as the addition and editing of new asset records.

When an asset folder is selected on a mobile phone, the folder tree is presented in the top half of the page:

The asset records can be viewed by scrolling down the page. These will be displayed in the same columnar structure as in a browser on a computer. If the phone is held in landscape orientation the wrapping of text in each column will be less noticeable. In portrait mode the records will be displayed thus:

New assets may be created by clicking the orange button, in this case to create a new Bank Account. If the edit icon is clicked, or the actual record itself, the same window showing the fields representing the attributes will be shown:

Telephone Numbers

If an Attribute has been designated as a Phone Number, as described in the Attribute Definitions section, it can simply be tapped when it is displayed on a smartphone and the number will be dialled. The content of the field must be a valid phone number, and must be correctly formatted. The use of the + character to prefix international dial tones is permitted, as are hyphens and spaces.

This ability to create new content in the system, as well as being able to edit existing records, is seen as a key benefit of the Safe4 Asset Register. In some business activities, end users of the system will find it much easier to enter new information into the system from their mobile phone than from a computer.
